Last weekend, I visited the Tall Ships festival at Lake Michigan, Chicago. A tall ship is any sailing ship that has at least two masts and is square rigged. These ships had docked at Navy Pier for a few days before continuing on their worldwide voyage.
My friend Lipika, was visiting me that weekend, so off we went to see the ships. It was a beautiful sunny evening with a cool breeze charateristic of a typical Chicago summer day. Navy Pier was crazily crowded that evening. Seemed like all of Chicago had turned up to see the ships.
The ships looked majestic with their tall masts. Unfortunately, the ships were docked and their sails were tied up. I did manage to get a few pictures of one that was sailing across the lake.
Just watching the ships seemed to take you back in history, to the times when sailboats were the only mode of transport over the seas. Giving in to flights of fancy, it reminded me of Pirates of the Carribean, and the pirate memorabilia on sale only added to the effect.
